The humidistat does not care what the temperature is in the house, most of the time it will be above 80 degrees on the hot days when it is set, but the humidity will be below the level where mold and mildew can grow. Mold and mildew take two factors to grow TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY. Remove move one and there is no longer a potential for them to grow.
1.1. To determine how the humidistat is wired TURN THE DIAL ON THE HUMIDISTAT ALL THE WAY TO THE OFF POSITION.
OR
1.2.TURN THE THERMOSTAT TO COOL AND 65 DEGREES WITH THE FAN SWITCH IN AUTO.
1.3. LISTEN FOR THE AIR CONDITIONER TO TURN ON.
1.4. IF NOTHING COMES ON YOUR HUMIDISTAT IS WIRED IN SERIES.
1.5. IF THE AIR CONDITIONER DOES COME ON, YOUR HUMIDISTAT IS WIRED IN PARALLEL.
1.5.1 IF YOU ARE NOT SURE THE AIR CONDITIONER IS COMING ON LOCATE THE OUTDOOR UNIT (IF ACCESSABLE) AND FOLLOW STEPS 1.1 to 1.4 AGAIN.
1.5.2 IF YOU ARE STILL NOT SURE IF THE AIR CONDITIONER IS COMING ON PERFORM STEPS 1.1 and 1.2 AND WAIT 60 MIN. IF THE HOUSE GETS WARMER THE SYSTEM IS NOT RUNNING. YOUR HUMIDISTAT IS WIRED IN SERIES.
1.5.3 IF THE TEMPERATURE HAS GONE DOWN THE HUMIDISTAT IS WIRED IN PARALLEL.
HUMIDISTAT SETTINGS FOR SERIES
Setting the temperature to 75 degrees is necessary for humidistats wired in series. The residence will not cool to 75 degrees unless necessary,
it is set at that temperature to allow the humidistat to work properly. On high humidity days the humidistat may need to bring the residence
to a lower temperature to ensure all the humidity is removed, but the thermostat will not allow the temperature to go below 75 degrees.
This is why it is not recommended to set the thermostat to 80 degrees when wired in series. Sometime the humidistat needs to drop the temperature lower
to remove all of the required humidity.
SET THE HUMIDISTAT TO THE ON POSITION AND THE THERMOSTAT TO THE DESIRED ROOM TEMPERATURE and THE FAN IN THE AUTO POSITION.
OR
SET THE HUMIDISTAT BETWEEN 60% and 65% AND THE TEMPERATURE TO 75 DEGREES
IF YOUR HUMIDISTAT IS NOT RATED IN NUMBERS RATHER LOW, NORMAL, and HIGH
SET THE HUMIDISTAT DIRECTLY BETWEEN HIGH AND NORMAL (about 12 o’clock on comfort control model) AND SET THE TEMPERATURE TO 75 DEGREES and THE FAN IN THE AUTO POSITION.
OR
HUMIDISTAT SETTINGS FOR PARALLEL
When wired in parallel the humidistat and the thermostat work independently from one another. The humidistat only worries about humidity and the thermostat only worries about temperature. For example, if you set the humidistat to 65% and shut the thermostat off, the humidistat will maintain the area at 65% humidity. This is why it is important to shut the humidistat off while you are in residence when it is wired in parallel. There is no need for the humidistat to control the humidity while the thermostat is set at a comfortable temperature level.
SET THE HUMIDISTAT TO THE OFF POSITION AND THE THERMOSTAT TO THE DESIRED ROOM TEMPERATURE.
OR
SET THE HUMIDISTAT BETWEEN 60% and 65% AND THE TEMPERATURE TO 85 DEGREES
IF YOUR HUMIDISTAT IS NOT RATED IN NUMBERS RATHER LOW, NORMAL, and HIGH
SET THE HUMIDISTAT DIRECTLY BETWEEN HIGH AND NORMAL (about 12 o’clock on comfort control model) AND SET THE TEMPERATURE TO 85 DEGREES and FAN IN AUTO POSITION.
